The artist has managed to capture both the wisdom and serenity of Christ, and the halo above his head also contributes to this.
The holy man holds in his hand an engraved book of the Alpha and Omega, taken from Revelation 21:6-7 where he declares himself to be the Alpha and Omega, testifying to his omnipotence.
In his right hand he holds a cantorial staff, a symbol of religious authority.
On his chest is carved a flaming heart, the Sacred Heart representing the divine light and blood of Christ.
Antique, this glorious church relic will delight lovers of sacred art and history.
