Description
This Modernist side table is believed to be designed by Thonet and produced in the company’s factory in former Czechoslovakia.
This piece was produced in the 1930s and it is evident in the design that there is a shift towards purist modernist aesthetics. There is no decoration on the wooden parts of but there is striking pattern on the table top. This is an imitation of a tortoise shell type pattern made of a strong and water-resistant layer of resin. The table has a perfectly balanced composition and a pure form which was quite a design statement at the time.
This simplicity and elegance of their shape together with the beautiful wood with tortoise pattern and great craftsmanship makes these tables still a modern furniture some 100 years after their production.
Table has been recently refurbished by our experienced craftsman who has carried the restoration to the highest standard, using French polishing technique and Shellac varnish to hand finish the entire piece.Overall, tables show a great vintage condition with some minimal wear.
