Description
German Automaton with Bird, early 1900s, consisting of a round golden brass cage with a singing bird inside on a perch with a mushroom at the base. A curiosity from Wunderkammer, automatons and music boxes have always been built by master watchmakers to amaze. The joy offered by the vision of these automatons that move, sing, look at each other, communicate with each other, without any apparent mechanical noise and as if by arcane magic, stimulates the imagination of the observer by offering him the sense of real life in the woods. In our case this bird cage presents us with the love song of the male Nightingale; the singing starts by loading the key under the base and can be stopped by operating the lever on the edge of the cage. The synchrony of mechanical movement and sound are to be considered practically perfect and superimposable on reality. The search for this extraordinary effect of non-virtual truth made the difference between a good master watchmaker and a truly brilliant one.
