China ink on paper. Signed on the right. Born in Ohio but soon moved to Wisconsin, after working in various professions he began to devote himself to art, obtaining a degree in Fine Arts in Cleveland. Frequents artists of the so-called American Beat Generation, from Kerouac to Ginsberg, and in particular becomes a friend of Willem De Kooning, one of the leading exponents of abstract impressionism, which also introduces him in the Italian art scene. In 1959 Carroll moved to Rome, where he established relationships with important figures of the artistic and literary environment, in particular with Quasimodo.The work proposed here presents a composition of figures in a dreamlike, surreal, made in ink, plays all the effects on the chiaroscuro contrasts of black and white.The paper is mounted on a panel, framed in support with passepartout, missing the frame.
