Description
Jean Xavier Ernest Elchinger, also known as Jean Garillon (1898-1981), has a special place in the dynasty of Elchinger ceramists. Nephew of Lon Elchinger, he officiated in the first half of the 20th century in the family workshops. A ceramist at the crossroads, he mixed the traditional know-how of Soufflenheim potters with the modernity of the Art Deco movement. This glazed earthenware dish is a beautiful illustration of his work, close in technique and appearance to Alsatian vernacular productions. It is made modern and artistic by a fine work of ornamentation made of stylized multicolored flowers surrounded by leaves.
The cup or tray is in good condition, some traces of use are visible. It is manually signed and stamped. This ceramic tray is the work of Jean Garillon.
17cm in diameter, 6cm high.
