Description
Oil on canvas. Flemish school of the XVII-XVIII century. The genre scene of popular taste, presents some peasants playing bowls in the street, in front of a ruined barn, while one of them carries out his physiological needs in a corner. The Flemish taste can be found in the typology of the figures and of the countryside that it describes, and the ‘picturesque’ note, although very realistic, is particularly close to the production of the painter Adriaen Brower (1606-1638), as suggested by an old attribution on the back. The painting is presented in a frame in style.
