Description

This beautiful engraving named La boudinire, is made by Jacques Philippe LeBas after the work of David Teniers II. This engraving represents a kitchen interior divided by partitions. In the foreground, there is the carcass of a half pig hanging. This carcass is placed in front of a bread oven. A young woman stands behind a table where she is making blood sausages. To the left of this composition is a group of children, one of whom is blowing into a bladder. In the background is a group of people with different attitudes in front of a fireplace. Throughout the room are various utensils used in the butchery.

The original work is by David Teniers II, known as the young. This artist is a Flemish painter, engraver and copyist of the seventeenth century. This artist is versatile and realized many works. He is also known for his innovation. He is known mainly for his activity as a genre painter. He developed particularly the peasant genre. He belongs to the guild of Antwerp. During his career he became a court painter in Brussels for Leopold William Hamburg. For this prince, he made an illustrated catalog of his collections.

This work is realised by Jacques Philippe Lebas, a French engraver of the XVIIIth century. He was approved by the French Academy and obtains the authorization to reproduce officially the academician painters. He obtains this right thanks to the reproduction of 2 works of Nicolas Lancret representing the gallant conversations in the park. He is the associate member of the Academy of Rouen. He is also the adviser of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
