Description
Etching. Trial piece, signature and date at the bottom right. From the ‘De Monarchia’ series. Russian-american sculptor, painter, artist, graphic designer and art philosopher, Neizvestny (surname that means actually ‘unknown’ in Russian) emigrated to the United States in 1976. He lived and worked in New York. Particularly famous for his monumental works (i.e. the ‘Mask of sorrow’ in Russia in memory of the victims of the soviet purges) mostly made of cement, he is considered from the Russians as ‘expression of the country, its soul, tongue and spirit’ as well as ‘philosophical conscience of his country’. In frame.
