Description
A fun and unique mid century oil painting on canvas, titled Le Club 55 on reverse. Le Club 55 is a legendary and glamorous beach club in the south of France, and we can infer that the setting of the painting is within its interior. Punctuating the center of the composition are two well-dressed figures standing in front of white round table, with 2 wine glasses in front of them. The background of the painting is composed of an interesting mix of collage including wine labels and an image of a sail boat. Containing elements of geometric abstraction, the artist has skilfully reconstructed the figures down to flat blocks of contrasting colours to demonstrate their three-dimensional form, whilst simultaneously emphasising the two-dimensional flatness of the canvas. This oil on stretched canvas comes unframed, but can be hung as is. It is in excellent vintage condition. Size: 3324 cm
