Description
Beautiful set of 2, wood-carved paintings depicting scenes from a day in the life in Brittany, France, from the late 19th to early 20th century, made some time between the 1940’s – 1950’s.
Based on the autumnal colors, musical instruments being played, and the traditional folk costumes worn by both the men and women during this time as depicted in each painting, the artist seems to have captured moments from a wedding in Southern Brittany, from the ceremony itself, to the celebration afterwards (see photos.)
Both paintings are in very good, original and vintage condition, with very light signs of age and previous usage commensurate with time (see photos.) Both carry a lovely patina of time, as well as their orignal rich, warm colors (see photos.) Please note: all photos have been shot in natural light, so the colors may differ slightly, based on the angle or position upon which they are viewed on your screen.
Both pieces carry a carved signature, “M.P”, at their lower right-hand corners (see photos.)
Each piece has a sturdy piece of string at their backs, so they can be easily mounted onto a wall (see photos.)
